What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is the ultimate treasure hunt! This outdoor adventure takes you out of your neighborhood to explore the rest of your community, your county, or even your state! Small objects, often including a log book and pen or pencil, are hidden in containers or “caches” around towns, cities and outdoor areas which geocachers use handheld GPS units to locate. The challenge often lies in driving, walking, hiking, or climbing to actually reach the cache. It’s the latest and greatest way to explore Albany in a whole new way and learn things that you probably never knew before!
How do I get started?
Purchase your handheld GPS unit at any store that sells electronics. Many cost less than $100. Review the list of cache sites below or find more at www.geocaching.com. Good Luck!
